COUPLING GOOSENECK TO TOWING VEHICLE AND RAISING SEMITRAILER - Continued
13.
With hydraulic system pressurized, move platform lever (Figure 8, Item 3) to up position to raise semitrailer
bed to a position slightly above desired height. Position shim lever (Figure 8, Item 3) in appropriate slot to
maintain semitrailer height and lower semitrailer bed slightly to lock shims in position.
14.
Move towing vehicle and semitrailer forward slowly and apply brakes to ensure proper braking action.
15.
System is ready for operation.
END OF TASK
DISCONNECTING GOOSENECK FROM SEMITRAILER FOR LOADING OR UNLOADING
Disconnecting the gooseneck from the semitrailer for loading or unloading must be conducted with the gooseneck
coupled to the towing vehicle and the semitrailer raised.
WARNING
Accidental or intentional introduction of liquid contaminants into the environment is a
violation of state, federal, and military regulations. Refer to Army Petroleum, Oils, and
Lubricants (POL) for information concerning storage, use, and disposal of these liquids.
Use a drain pan or appropriate containment equipment to capture any draining or leaking
fluid. Refer to local procedures and plans for preventing and responding to fluid spills or
leaks. Comply with local regulations when disposing of clean up material and leaked and
spilled fluids. Failure to comply may cause damage to environment and health of
personnel. Failure to comply may result in death or injury to personnel. Seek medical
attention in the event of an injury.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the equipment, the procedure to disconnect the gooseneck should
be performed by an operator working in cooperation with a ground observer. Failure to
comply may result in damage to, or destruction of, equipment or mission.
NOTE
A reading of 900 psi (6,205.3 kPa) is only on gage (Figure 8, Item 1) when
hydraulic controls are in use. Readings will drop to 500 psi (3,447.4 kPa) when
The psi will vary due to load. Hydraulic pressures will vary from 300-900 psi
(2,068.4-6,205.3 kPa) under normal operation, and will reach a maximum of
900-1,100 psi (6,205.3-7,584.2 kPa) under full load.
1.
Start up hydraulic system on towing vehicle and observe appropriate psi on hydraulic gage
(Figure 8, Item 1).
2.
Raise semitrailer using platform lever (Figure 8, Item 2) until shim lever (Figure 8, Item 3) is free to rotate
shim clear of detents.
