2.
Place suitable support (Figure 1, Item 1) under tandem beam and lower beam to rest on support. Repeat
Step 1 for tandem beam on opposite side, but leave support in position as a secondary support.
3.
Position a dolly jack under balance point of front axle and raise dolly until dolly comes in contact with axle.
4.
Remove 16 bolts (Figure 2, Item 2) and self-locking nuts (Figure 2, Item 7) securing both ends of four upper
and lower torque rods securing axle. Discard bolts (Figure 2, Item 2) and self-locking nuts (Figure 2, Item 7).
NOTE
For torque rods attached to the axle tower, pry off the metal plug caps from the
towers to gain access to the torque rod self-locking bushing nuts.
Mark one end of the torque rod tube relative to installation location and orientation
prior to removal of the torque rods to avoid possible reversing of torque rod
during reinstallation.
5.
Remove spigot caps (Figure 2, Item 3) and torque rods (Figure 2, Item 4).
6.
Using dolly jack, withdraw torque rod saddle axle brackets (Figure 2, Item 5) and axle (Figure 2, Item 1)
from tandem beam (Figure 2, Item 6) and lower axle (Figure 2, Item 1) while an assistant balances axle.
