Check for Short to + 5
Volt Line
l Turn ignition off.
. Disconnect the engine harness
connector at the ECM.
l Read resistance between sockets
W1 and P1 on the engine harness
connector.

Check for Short to
Battery +
l Removeboth fuses to the
ECM.
l Disconnect the vehicle harness
and 6-way power harness
connectors at the ECM.
l Read resistance between socket
PI of the engine harness
connector and socket 63 of the
vehicle harness connector.
l AISOread resistance between
socket P1 on the engine harness
connector and the following
sockets on the 6-way power
harness connector: A, B, E and F.

Check ECM
Connectors
l Check terminals atthe ECM engine
harness connector (both the ECM
and harness side) for damage;
bent, corroded and unseated pins
or sockets.
Less than or
equal to 10,000 ohms.
Greater than
10,000 ohms or open.
All readings are
greater than 10,000 ohms
or open.
Any reading is
less than or equal to
10,000 ohms.
Terminals and
connectors are okay.
Problem found.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Signal line (ckt #432) is shorted
to the engine +5 Volt line (ckt
#41 6). Contact Direct Support.
Go
to 33-6
Go
to 33-7,
A short exists between the
sockets where less than 10,000
ohms resistance was read.
Repair short, page 3-2, and
insert fuses. Then go to 33-30.
Replace ECM, page 4-192.
Then go to 33-30.
Repair terminals/connectors,
page 3-2. Then go to 33-30.
