Check for Short in
Crankshaft Position
(CP), Engine Brake
(EB) or Actuator #1
Wires
l Turn ignition off.
l Disconnect the vehicle harness
connector at the ECM.
l Read resistance between socket
C3 and the followingother sockets:
Al, K2 and J3, (if they are in the
harness).
l Repeat resistance check between
known good ground and sockets
A1, K2, and J3.

Check for Short in
Actuator #2 or
l Disconnect the engine harness
connector at the ECM.
l Read resistance
between socket
Y2 and Y1.
l Read resistance between known
good ground and Y1.
l Read resistance between known
good ground and Y2.
l Read resistance between socket
Y2 and W2.

Check ECM
Connectors
l disconnect the engine harness
connector (if not already
disconnected).
l Check terminalsatthe ECM vehicle
harness and engine harness
connectors both the ECM and
harness side) for damage: bent,
corroded and unseated pins
or sockets.
All readings are
greater than 5 ohms, or
terminals not in harness.
Any reading
less than or equal
to 5 ohms.
All readings
are greater than 5 ohms.
Any reading IS
less than or equal
to 5 ohms.
Terminals and
connectors are okay.
Problem found.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Go
to 31-8.
Short to sensor return or ground
exists in the circuit where less
than or equal to 5 ohms reading
occurred. Contact Direct Support.
GO
to 31-9.
Short
to ground or sensorreturn
exists in the circuitwhere less
than or equal to 5 ohms reading
occurred (either ckt #909 or ckt
#910,) Contact Direct Support.
Replace
ECM, page 4-192.
Then go to 31-30.
Repair terminals/connectors,
page 3-2. Then go to 31-30.
