LEAKAGE TEST
NOTE
To locate shutoff valve, refer to towing vehicle TM.
1.
Close shutoff valve to air lines.
2.
With air system connected, apply a solution of detergent and water to flanges holding diaphragm in spring
brake chamber, and to gladhands tagged SERVICE.
3.
No leakage is permitted.
4.
Tighten nuts on flanges and coupling on gladhands as required.
5.
With brake system fully pressurized, close shutoff valve on emergency line in towing vehicle.
6.
Disconnect gladhands tagged EMERGENCY from towing vehicle.
7.
Make sure semitrailer brakes apply automatically.
8.
Coat spring brake control valve exhaust port with a solution of detergent and water.
9.
Leakage must not exceed a 1 in. (2.5 cm) bubble in three seconds.
10.
If excess leakage is found, replace spring brake control valve.
END OF TASK
OPERATING TEST
1.
With gladhands connected to towing vehicle, apply brakes. Ensure brakes of all semitrailer wheels
apply properly.
2.
Release brakes. Ensure each brake releases properly.
3.
With brake system fully pressurized, close shutoff valve on emergency hose in towing vehicle. Disconnect
gladhands tagged EMERGENCY from towing vehicle. Make sure semitrailer brakes apply automatically.
4.
Connect gladhands tagged EMERGENCY to towing vehicle. Open shutoff valve in towing vehicle. Ensure
brakes release automatically.
