REMOVAL
1.
Remove four retainer rings (Figure 1, Item 3) and flat washers (Figure 1, Item 2) and withdraw two grooved
pins (Figure 1, Item 9) and bushings (Figure 1, Item 10).
2.
Remove two sleeved bushing retainer clips (Figure 1, Item 7).
3.
Swing back brake shoes (Figure 1, Item 1) and remove brake shoes with return spring (Figure 1, Item 6).
4.
Remove two sleeved bushings (Figure 1, Item 8).
5.
Remove six screws (Figure 1, Item 4) and dust shield (Figure 1, Item 5).
END OF TASK
INSPECTION
1.
Inspect springs for rust, obvious defects, and excessive wear. Replace defective spring.
2.
Inspect brake shoe lining for wear. If braking surface is within 0.1875 in. (0.48 cm) of rivet heads or grease
is present, replace brake shoes.
END OF TASK
INSTALLATION
1.
Install dust shield (Figure 1, Item 5) and six screws (Figure 1, Item 4).
2.
Assemble return spring (Figure 1, Item 6), two retainer clips (Figure 1, Item 7), and sleeve bushings
(Figure 1, Item 8) with brake shoes (Figure 1, Item 1).
3.
Position brake shoes (Figure 1, Item 1) on axle spider and complete connection of return spring
(Figure 1, Item 6) to both brake shoes.
4.
Spread each brake shoe (Figure 1, Item 1) apart and insert two bushings (Figure 1, Item 10), grooved pins
(Figure 1, Item 9), four flat washers (Figure 1, Item 2), and retaining rings (Figure 1, Item 3).
