LOADING EQUIPMENT AND CARGO
Loading Procedures
WARNING
All personnel not involved in the loading or unloading operation must stand clear of
towing vehicle and semitrailer to prevent serious injury to personnel. Failure to
comply may result in death or injury to personnel. Seek medical attention in the
event of an injury.
Due to dimensions and center of gravity of some loads, refer to the loading and
unloading section in the TM of the equipment being loaded, to prevent damage to
equipment. Failure to comply may result in death or injury to personnel. Seek
medical attention in the event of an injury.
Use a speed of less than 2 mph when loading and unloading vehicles, especially
tracked vehicles. Higher speeds will exaggerate motions and create hazardous
conditions which could damage equipment. Failure to comply may result in death
or injury to personnel. Seek medical attention in the event of an injury.
If outriggers will be required to stabilize payload, see Outrigger Usage in this work package.
1.
2.
If load will require usage of rear deck, remove spare tire stowed on rear deck (WP 0040) and place spare
tire where it will not interfere with loading.
3.
Align equipment to be loaded with semitrailer so equipment can be driven straight onto semitrailer. This is
particularly important if equipment being loaded is a tracked vehicle or a vehicle with a wide track width.
Turning vehicles while on semitrailer can present hazardous conditions and/or damage semitrailer.
NOTE
If equipment is not aligned properly during loading, stop the loading procedure, back the
equipment off the semitrailer, align it properly, and begin loading procedure again.
4.
Prepare and secure equipment with procedures in this work package.
5.
Replace spare tire on rear deck mounting location (WP 0040) if access is available, otherwise secure tire in
an alternate position on semitrailer as available.
Outrigger Usage
WARNING
Outriggers are only designed to stabilize payload. Payload must be fully supported by
semitrailer load bed. Supporting a payload on outriggers may result in damage to
equipment. Failure to comply may result in death or injury to personnel. Seek medical
attention in the event of an injury.
