Inspect torque rods and bushings (WP 0052) and replace torque rods and bushings as needed.
END OF TASK
The axle weight is approximately 275 lb (124.73 kg). Use extreme caution when handling
the axle. Failure to comply may result in death or injury to personnel. Seek medical
attention in the event of an injury.
Place axle (Figure 3, Item 1) on dolly jack and position on tandem beam (Figure 3, Item 6).
Connect torque rods (Figure 3, Item 4) to spigots on torque rod saddle axle brackets (Figure 3, Item 5) and
semitrailer suspension towers and hanger frames.
Use only approved bolts and nuts for the torque rod to joint fasteners. Do not re-use or use
other fasteners. Doing so may lead to fastener failure and consequent loss of vehicle
control. Failure to comply may result in death or injury to personnel. Seek medical attention
in the event of an injury.
Secure torque rods (Figure 3, Item 4) in position with spigot caps (Figure 3, Item 3), 16 new bolts
(Figure 3, Item 2), and 16 new self-locking nuts (Figure 3, Item 7).
If previously removed, replace tower metal plug caps.
Lug nuts should be rechecked for proper tightness after the first 50 mi. (80.5 km) to
100 mi. (160.9 km) of operation after wheel reinstallation.
Remove suitable lifting device and support from tandem beams (Figure 3, Item 6).
